InevitableScape is a collaborative musical endeavor established in 2025 by Vietnamese composer and electronic musician Phuc Nguyen, alongside the Spanish-Norwegian classically trained violist Lidia Plana.
The duo initially aimed to experiment the fusion of string instruments with electronic music, which ultimately led them to formalize their collaboration under the name InevitableScape. Their musical creations are characterized by a strong emphasis on improvisation and experimentation, seeking to merge traditional musical components with elements of noise and contemporary harmony. They are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of their understanding of time and structure, resulting in an innovative sound that challenges conventional musical norms.
At its core, InevitableScape is a profound journey of exploration and introspection, aimed at revealing the most fundamental expressions of personal emotions. The project strives to find harmony in sharing one's inner self while simultaneously engaging with the outside world, all rooted in authenticity, sincerity, and clarity of expression. By questioning and redefining the dichotomies inherent in music, such as music versus noise, linear versus non-linear time, fixed structure versus open form, and free versus periodic rhythm, InevitableScape embraces these contrasts as equally valuable.
Through their use of both traditional sounds and extended techniques with the viola and electronic music, every composition from InevitableScape narrates a personal story with honesty and an embrace of vulnerability.
In 2025, InevitableScape showcased their artistic vision through two live performance projects in the Netherlands: “Inevitable,” featuring viola and live electronics, and “Seven,” a solo amplified viola work. Their performances took place at prestigious venues in Maastricht, including the Vrijthof Theater, the Natural History Museum, Bonnefanten Museum, and Maastricht Conservatory. Following their successful live debut, they have plans to record their first album in August 2025 in Stavanger, Norway, with an anticipated release by the end of the year.
